Does Your Child Need a Tutor?

by Brian on December 15, 2011

In the course of your child’s education, it may become apparent that he or she is having some difficulties.  From dwindling grades to a lack of understanding in the coursework, it is not uncommon for students to need additional help.

You should be aware of any programs or options at the school.  Before you consider a tutoring service or private tutor of any kind, you may be able to get help for your child without the additional cost.  Contact the school directly to see if there is are any options available, such as before or after school assistance.

That could easily be the solution.  However, then again, you may notice some signs that something else is required:

  • There are no viable ways for your child to get help at the school.  For instance, scheduling conflicts can make this quite the hassle on you and/or your child.
  • The school-based help might not be enough.  Your child may need a bit more assistance than the program provides, or perhaps more attention to develop understanding of the content.
  • Lack of results.  Behavior, lack of understanding, or lack of enthusiasm, for instance, might be the problem.  However, as time passes by, the results just aren’t there – for any reason.

Could that “something else” be a tutor?  That is quite possible.  If the alternatives aren’t quite working, or you feel that having a tutor is the most efficient option (for time, money, your child’s best interests, etc.), then you could certainly consider this option.

Having a tutor for your child could provide the attention that is necessary.  Some students work very well in one-on-one settings, or limited sized groups.  Under the assistance of an experienced tutor, your child may be able to make impressive progress in his or her studies, allowing the student to increase in understanding and confidence.
